For the past 7 days our chrysalides have been hanging around quietly while they make their secretive changes. On the morning of day 17 (since their arrival on our doorstep) I noticed that some of the chrysalides had started to change colour, on closer inspection wing patterns could be seen through them.
Within 5 minutes the first of our Painted Lady butterflies was out and was gradually unfolding it’s wings and sticking out it’s tongue at us!
Later that morning while our backs were turned another emerged!
At the end of the day, despite a lot of peering at them, the remaining 8 were still hanging around.
